Launch of Project ERASE

By May 14, 2025Announcement

Peel Regional Police, in collaboration with neighbouring police services, launched this year’s Project ERASE (Eliminating Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere). This multi-jurisdictional campaign focuses on high-visibility, strategic enforcement operations to address street racing, stunt driving, and illegal car rallies throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Project ERASE reflects our continued commitment to enhancing road safety by targeting high-risk driving behaviours in Peel Region.

Since 2022, PRP has recorded a 154 per cent increase in street racing-related charges, rising from just over 800 charges in 2022 to more than 2,100 in 2024. In the last two weeks, 32 vehicles have been seized and more than 400 charges have been laid, including 26 related to stunt driving. This data showcases the continued need for road safety efforts, and that street racing and stunt driving will not be tolerated.  Additionally, we work closely with the cities of Mississauga and Brampton to enforce municipal bylaws, which include fines of up to $800 for participants and spectators of illegal car rallies. Offenders may also face criminal charges, vehicle impoundment, and driver’s licence suspensions.

To help keep our roads safe, we continue to urge the public to report dangerous driving by contacting Road Safety Services at 905-453-3311, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by submitting an online report via Road Watch. Photo and video evidence can also be submitted through our evidence submission portal.
