Mississauga to advocate for key priorities at 2026 AMO Conference

City leaders to meet with provincial ministers and opposition leaders to advocate for fair funding solutions, building more housing, transit infrastructure, community investments and other priorities.

The City of Mississauga is preparing to take its key priorities to the 2026 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference, taking place from August 16 to 19 in Ottawa. The annual conference brings together municipal leaders and provincial decision-makers from across Ontario to discuss shared challenges and opportunities facing communities today and in the future.As one of Ontario’s largest municipalities and economic centres, Mississauga’s delegation will include Mayor Carolyn Parrish, Deputy Mayor and Ward 8 Councillor Matt Mahoney, Ward 3 Councillor Chris Fonseca and senior City staff, including City Manager and Chief Administration Officer Geoff Wright.

Provincial policies, funding programs and infrastructure investments play a significant role in shaping Mississauga’s ability to deliver services, support housing growth, improve transit and invest in the facilities and amenities residents depend on every day.

This year’s advocacy efforts will be guided by a central theme: Fairness for Mississauga. The City will continue advocating for solutions to longstanding funding challenges while seeking provincial support for the following priorities:

  • Fair funding for Mississauga taxpayers, including reforms to the Greater Toronto Airports Authority payment-in-lieu-of-taxes and Peel Regional Police funding formulas.
  • Housing and infrastructure needed to support growth and affordability.
  • Transit investments, including the Hazel McCallion LRT, all-day two-way GO service on the Milton corridor and future MiWay infrastructure.
  • Community infrastructure projects, including community centres and libraries.
  • Continued support for economic development, investment attraction and local job creation.

Mississauga’s scheduled meetings include:

  • Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade
  • Ministry of Transportation
  • Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks
  • Ministry of Infrastructure
  • Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing
  • The Solicitor General
  • The Ontario Liberal Party
  • The Ontario NDP

These meetings will give Mississauga an opportunity to discuss its priorities directly with provincial decision-makers and strengthen key government partnerships.

AMO represents almost all of Ontario’s municipal governments. Each year, the City of Mississauga participates in the conference and meets with provincial ministers, cabinet members and opposition leaders to advocate for local priorities and strengthen intergovernmental relationships.
