Canada HomeShare has launched a pilot program in Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon. Run by the National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly (NICE) with support from the Region of Peel, Peel HomeShare matches older adults who have a spare room with post-secondary students who need housing. Students pay $400-$600 a month for rent and contribute 5-7 hours/week of companionship and/or assistance around the home.
Applications for home providers and students are now being accepted for the January 2022 school term. The entire process, from application to finding an appropriate home share match, is carefully overseen by NICE social workers in accordance with all COVID-19 protocols.

Violence against women is everyone’s problem and isolation makes it worse

Today on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and for the next 16 Days of Activism, the Region of Peel and community partners launched ‘Break The Silence’, a campaign to help end violence against women by building awareness in our community. As part of Peel’s Community Safety and Well-being Plan, this campaign was created in collaboration with the City of Brampton, the City of Mississauga, Town of Caledon, Peel Regional Police, Ontario Provincial Police and more than 10 community organizations. Council has approved an extension to both the temporary patio and temporary outdoor business programs until December 31, 2023. These program extensions will allow Mississauga restaurants and bars to continue using their patios and other outdoor businesses to use outdoor spaces as they continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
