Borrow, Grow and Return: It’s Thyme to Join the Seed Library

Spring is around the corner. With it comes the return of Mississauga Library’s ninth annual Seed Library program. Residents are invited to participate in online and in-person workshops and events from March onward throughout the gardening season. The workshops are free with registration and suitable for all ages.

In addition to being a rewarding experience for individuals and families to discover the joy of gardening, the program also aims to support local food systems, build seed-saving literacy and promote locally adapted plants. Dixie Outlet Mall Policy Review – Virtual Community Meeting

The City is reviewing the Dixie Outlet Mall site to help guide future redevelopment. The review will focus on the elements needed to create a complete community such as new roads, pedestrian connections, housing, parks, shopping and transit.

You are invited to a virtual community meeting on Tuesday, March 28, from 6 – 7:30pm to learn more and ask questions.  After an overview presentation from City staff, you’ll have an opportunity to share your thoughts on priorities for the site and give input on:

  • Urban design
  • Transportation and connections
  • Housing and other uses

Public input is an important part of the process and we look forward to your feedback.

OGDEN PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) Improvements from East of Cawthra Rd to West of Etobicoke Creek

 

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is undertaking improvements of the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) from east of Cawthra Road to West of Etobicoke Creek. The project limits are in the City of Mississauga and Region of Peel. MTO has awarded the construction contract to AIMCO INFRASTRUCTURE. Construction commenced in May 2022 and will continue for five construction years, with an anticipated completion in July 2026. Part of the construction includes the replacement of the Ogden Avenue Pedestrian Bridge as indicated on the map below. Read More

J.J. Plaus Park Construction Project

Sketch below outlining the areas of work for the JJ Plaus Construction project.  This lifecycle waterfront project is made possible through the City’s successful application for funding under the “ICIP: COVID Stream – Local Government Intake”.

The work has been contracted and is scheduled to begin in spring within the contract areas as shown in the sketch.  The lifecycle work involves concrete promenade repairs, finger pier boardwalk replacement in areas highlighted in blue and the replacement of safety ladders along the sea wall.  Targeted completion is prior to summer.

Update as of March 15, 2023:

Our contractor will mobilize next week on Wednesday, March 22nd.

Staff will prioritize the section beside the restaurant and commit to having this section completed and open to the public before May. 

We will then move on to replacing the wood deck on the pier and completing the concrete walkway replacement at the end of the park.

Our current schedule targets the project’s substantial performance in July 2023.

Mississauga Approves Action Plan for New Housing

Today, Council approved Growing Mississauga, the City’s comprehensive action plan for new housing.

The plan includes five goals and 23 actions designed to increase the supply of housing, streamline development and building approvals and improve affordability. The plan also details where private sector and government support is necessary to meet the accelerated pace of development. Read More

Have Your Say about Fireworks in Mississauga February 22 – March 20

The City of Mississauga is reviewing its Fireworks by-law, and we want your input!

From February 22 – March 20, Mississauga residents are invited to provide input about fireworks in Mississauga. Responses will inform recommendations for potential changes to a number of fireworks-related topics including:

  • Increasing regulations on fireworks use in Mississauga
  • Increasing fines for illegal fireworks use in Mississauga
  • Increased enforcement of the fireworks by-law in Mississauga

There are two ways you can provide your feedback into potential changes to the Fireworks by-law:

  1. Complete the survey online until March 20 at
  2. Attend one of two Virtual Public Meetings March 2 and 7, 6:30 – 8 p.m. The meetings will include a presentation and question and answer session. Register for the meetings at yoursay.Mississauga.ca/fireworks

Film Notice: Stage 49 Ltd.

Please be advised that the above will be filming interior scenes for a TV Series “How To Die Alone” at 150 Lakeshore Rd W – Remedy’s RX Rite Care Pharmacy (Ward 1) on February 22nd, 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Prep will be conducted on February 21st, 7:30am-7:00pm and wrap on February 22nd, 1:00pm-4:00pm.

A permit has been granted to allow parking on the following:

  • One (east) side of Peter St (between Port St & Bay St)
  • North side of Lakeshore Rd W (Boulevard only) between 150 Lakeshore Rd W & John St
    • Lighting placement on sidewalk/boulevard facing Remedy’s Pharmacy

Production has also been approved for crew vehicle parking onsite at J.C. Saddington Park – North Lot (53 Lake St, Ward 1) on February 22nd, 7:00am-1:30pm.

Production has been approved for intermittent traffic stoppages (max of 3 min) under the supervision of Peel Regional Police not between the hours of 7am – 9am and 4pm – 6pm. A camera is permitted on the boulevard and sidewalk as long as two-way traffic/pedestrian access is maintained at all times.

Affected residents have been informed of these activities via notification letter. A release form survey was sent to residents with less than 34% objecting in order to allow:

  • Overnight parking
  • Lighting and/or generators to be oriented toward neighbouring residences

CONSTRUCTION WORK STARTING IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD – Laughton Avenue, Truscott Drive, Barsuda Drive, and Petrie Way

The Region of Peel will be working in your neighbourhood to rehabilitate the existing sanitary sewer system on Laughton Avenue, Truscott Drive, Barsuda Drive and Petrie Way. Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your home to a wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater is created when water is flushed down the toilet, or goes down the drain in your sink, tub, or shower.
To extend the service life of the sewer under your street, Peel Region’s contractors will clean the existing sewer pipe and place a new resin (plastic) lining within it. This work will be completed underground with specialized equipment, and will not require digging trenches in your neighbourhood. Read More
