The Hockey Hub mass vaccination centre, located at the CAA Centre in the Region of Peel, is on track to deliver nearly 50,000 vaccinations to support the region’s fight against the Delta variant that is spreading in the region.

Hon. Sylvia Jones, Solicitor General of Ontario, has been a leader in the province’s historic vaccination effort. During a visit to the Hockey Hub in the Region of Peel, Jones noted the collaboration seen among private organizations, public health and all levels of government has been instrumental to getting Ontarians vaccinated safely and efficiently.

“We are seeing improvements in province wide public health trends, but the race against the COVID-19 variants is imperative to the province’s reopening plans,” said Jones. “The teamwork shown between Peel Public Health, the Grey Bruce Health Unit, and the private organizations who came together to establish this hub and expand our vaccination capacity is truly commendable.”

The hub was established in collaboration with the Region of Peel and a coalition of organizations brought together by Bruce Power. Grey-Bruce’s top doctor, Dr. Ian Arra, developed the Hockey Hub model, and recently brought a team of clinical staff from the Grey Bruce Health unit to the site to support on site vaccinations and share successful processes to administer vaccines to large numbers of clients using the model.

“This site was made possible through strong collaboration between public health units, hundreds of volunteers and the many organizations who came together to provide support,” said Mike Rencheck, Bruce Power’s President and CEO. “Bruce Power is proud to stand alongside so many businesses in support of the province’s vaccination efforts.”

The site opened to the public in late May, and will have delivered nearly 50,000 doses in 17 clinic days between May 26 and June 30. The materials from the clinic will be redeployed to other vaccine clinics in the region following the closure of the site.

In early May, Bruce Power brought together a coalition of businesses, unions and organizations who have provided financial, logistical and volunteer support for the set-up and operation of the facility. These Sponsor Partners include:

  • Alectra Utilities
  • BWXT
  • CGI Inc.
  • E.S. Fox
  • EMC a Day & Zimmerman Company
  • EnergySolutions
  • Framatome
  • Kinectrics
  • Greater Toronto Airports Authority

  • Maple Leaf Foods
  • Nordion
  • Nuclear Promise X
  • SNC-Lavalin
  • Provincial Building and Trades Council of Ontario

In addition to the Sponsor Partners, others have provided support with both the volunteer program and supporting individual immunization days. These organizations include the CAA Club Group, Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW), Capital Power, United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Convenience Industry Council of Canada (CICC), Desjardins Group, Fujitsu, NTT Data Canada, Promation Nuclear, Rycom, SCI Group Inc., TC Energy, and Xerox.

The Hockey Hub relies heavily on the contributions of the many volunteers who have come forward, and organizations that have coordinated volunteer efforts, including Bird Construction, Brampton Fire and Emergency Services, Khalsa Aid Canada, Levitt-Safety, PTAG, and Plan Group.
