Notice Of Study Completion, Port Credit Storm Drainage Master Plan

WHAT?

  • The City of Mississauga has prepared a Storm Drainage Master Plan for the Port Credit Neighbourhood. This Master Plan was developed to assess how much stormwater the current drainage system can handle and to identify any potential problems with the system, caused by increased development in the area and the effects of climate change. The Master Plan has recommended storm sewer upgrades and recommended opportunities for local Low Impact Development (LID) Best Management Practices (BMPs).

WHY?

  • In the recent years, the Port Credit Neighbourhood has been subject to infill and intensification which may put greater pressure on the stormwater system.
  •  No recent evaluations\assessments of the drainage system capacity had been completed. Accordingly, this Study was completed to determine the current and future storm drainage infrastructure requirements for the area to prepare a roadmap for future action.
    HOW?
  • Detailed modelling of existing drainage systems was conducted to identify a comprehensive program for the City’s drainage infrastructure.
  • Potential options were evaluated for managing stormwater drainage in the Port Credit Neighbourhood along with priorities for the implementation of the overall preferred solution, consisting of three (3) separate projects.

PORT CREDIT STORM DRAINAGE MASTER PLAN FOR REVIEW

  • A key component of this Study was to consult with regulatory agencies, the public, interested stakeholders and Indigenous Peoples & Nations whose Traditional Territory the Study Area is located in.
  • Two virtual Public Information Centres (PICs) were held throughout the Study process to present initial Study findings, alternatives, the preferred solution and to answer any questions.

• Section 16 of the Environmental Assessment Act allows a person to submit a request to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks to issue an order requiring a higher level of study (i.e., requiring an individual / comprehensive EA approval before being able to proceed), or that conditions be imposed (e.g., require further studies), only on the grounds that the requested order may prevent, mitigate or remedy adverse impacts on constitutionally protected Aboriginal and treaty rights. For Master Plans, this request would be possible only for those projects identified in the Master Plan, which are subject to the Class EA process, and not the Master Plan itself. The projects recommended through Storm Drainage Master Plan (i.e., storm sewer upgrades and LIDs) are not subject to Section 16 Order Request.

The Peel Region Public Works department regularly maintains and repairs the water system to make sure you have a consistent supply of quality drinking water. Sometimes we must turn off your water supply while we do this work.

Your water will be turned off on Wednesday, April 9, from 9:00am to 5:00pm. If we need to reschedule this work due to weather or other circumstances, we will let you know the new date and time.

 

Property owner/manager responsibilities during a water interruption

As a property owner/manager, it is your responsibility to:

  • Ensure maintenance, mechanical or plumbing staff are on site during the water interruption, as it may affect internal systems that rely on water such as boilers, fire suppression, and alarms.
  • Notify the fire alarm company if the interruption could affect an alarm system.
  • Have a fire watch completed during the water interruption, as the building’s sprinkler protection system will not function when the water supply is shut off.

After the water interruption

When we turn the water back on, air in the pipes may make the water cloudy and your plumbing may vibrate or make noise. We recommend removing the air by slowly turning on your taps from the lowest to the highest faucet in the building (that is, starting in the basement/first floor, and finishing on the top floor). You will likely need to run the water for 10 to 30 seconds. Run the water until it is clear, and any vibration or noise has stopped.

Important note

After the water is turned back on, we recommend checking the water meter (usually located in the basement). If it is leaking, call Water Meter Installations Dispatch at:

The Region of Peel (the Region) has initiated an Addendum to the 2022 Schedule C Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) for the Wastewater Capacity Improvements in Central Mississauga which included the Queensway East Trunk Sewer (QET). The purpose of the Addendum is to review proposed watermain upgrades from Stillmeadow Road to Dixie Road in the City of Mississauga. The Addendum has identified a preliminary preferred solution that includes a new watermain along the Queensway (from Stillmeadow Road to Dixie Road) to align with the Region’s long-term plan for providing water service.

Public Information Centre Details:

An in-person Public Information Centre (PIC) is planned to present the following information:

  • Proposed changes to the 2022 MCEA, including the evaluation of watermain expansion alternatives
  • Updates to the detailed design and construction schedule for the modifications to the large watermain named Hanlan Feedermain 1 (HFM1 on map)

Process:
The Addendum to the 2022 MCEA is being conducted in accordance with Schedule C of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (October 2000, amended 2007, 2011, 2015) which was the approved process followed for the 2022 MCEA. Upon completion, the EA Addendum report will be made available for a minimum of 30-day review period. Public and agency consultation is a key element of the MCEA Addendum Study process and input will be sought throughout this study.

City-Owned Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Have New User Fees

Users of City-owned public EV charging stations in Mississauga will now be charged a $0.30/kWh fee. The fee is based on the actual amount of energy that is used to charge the electric vehicle. Today, there are 30 City-owned public EV charging stations located in Mississauga, with more on the way throughout 2025.

Public EV charging fees

The cost to charge your EV is based on the actual amount of energy that is used at a rate of $0.30/kWh. The decision to charge a fee based on kilowatt hour, instead of total time spent charging, is to ensure the cost is fair to owners of EVs that have slower charging speeds.

Once your EV is charged, you have 30 minutes to leave the EV charging station, so that others can use it. Vehicles that are parked and not actively charging during the day, after this 30-minute period, will be subject to an idle fee of $5 per hour.

However, an idle fee will not be charged between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. at locations where overnight parking is permitted.

At certain locations (e.g. P3 at the Central Library Parking Garage), due to technology limitations, it is not possible to charge fees based on the amount of energy that is consumed. In such instances, fees will be charged based on the duration of use and assessed hourly at a rate of $2 per hour. Please refer to the signage on the EV charging station for more information.

City-owned public EV charging station locations

There are 30 City-owned public Level 2 EV charging stations located in Mississauga, with more to be added this year:

  • Eight in the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre
  • Eight in the Sheridan South parking lot
  • Four in the Streetsville Municipal parking lot
  • 10 in the Central Library parking garage

Charging your EV at home

Charging at home is often the least expensive and most convenient way to charge an EV. For typical daily driving in the GTA, a full charge can be achieved overnight using a Level 1 charger and a typical wall outlet. With access to a Level 2 charger, most people can charge enough for their daily driving needs in 1-2 hours. If you want to install a Level 2 charger at home, we suggest you reach out to a licensed electrical contractors in your area, use this tool by the Electrical Safety Authority at findacontractor.esasafe.com.

Want to install a charger at an apartment or condo? The City of Mississauga and Alectra Utilities encourage potential EV owners to work with their condo corporation or building manager to identify ways to meet their EV charging needs before purchasing the vehicle.

Nighttime Runaway Maintenance At Toronto Pearson Airport – April 1st And April 8th –

Upcoming overnight runway maintenance at Toronto Pearson may result in temporary changes to runway usage and community impacts between April 1 and 8, 2025.

What’s happening?

Toronto Pearson’s annual routine maintenance season is now underway. As part of the 2025 seasonal program, we are notifying you of the upcoming nighttime runway closures scheduled between April 1 and April 8, 2025.

  • Runway 05/23 will be closed from midnight to 6:00 AM
  • Runway 15L/33R will be closed from 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM

As always, these dates are weather-dependent and may shift if conditions require.

What is the impact for local communities?

Due to the temporary closure of Nighttime Preferential Runways, aircraft’s may need to use alternate runways that are not typically used overnight, including:

  • Runway 06L/24R (primary alternative during closure)
  • Runway 15L (used for long-haul departures requiring greater runway length, up until 2:00 AM)

 

As a result, residents in areas not usually affected by nighttime aircraft noise may notice changes during this period.

How are we notifying residents and stakeholders?

  • Noise Advisory Calendar: The calendar has been updated to reflect this maintenance work. We encourage you to share it with residents who are sensitive to aircraft noise.
  • WebTrak Notification: A notice will appear on our WebTrak tool, which provides near-real-time information about flights and aircraft noise.
