Text Message Scam

In late January 2022, there have been reports of residents receiving text messages from unknown numbers posing as the City of Mississauga and other local municipalities. The contents of the text indicate the City or Members of Council are giving the end-user an automated rebate with no context provided. Sample message:

If you have received these text messages, please be advised that these messages are not from the City or Members of Council. Do not reply to the text message, call the number or click on any links in the message. Delete it immediately.

If in error, you replied to these type of texts and in the process, disclosed your personal information (such as banking, SIN, passwords, etc.) please visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s “What to do if you are a victim of fraud” page for more information.

The City of Mississauga would never request your personal information over text message.
