Not all heroes wear capes but many wear face masks. To honour Mississauga residents, community groups and businesses that have gone above and beyond in helping those in the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Mississauga launched its COVID Heroes program today. A staff report recommending the recognition program was presented during the General Committee meeting on February 24. The Government of Ontario announced the shutdown, stay at home orders and all existing public health and workplace safety measures be maintained for an additional two weeks in Peel. The shutdown measures and the Stay-at-Home order will continue to apply until at least Monday, March 8, 2021, based on key public health indicators and following consultation with the local medical officers of health. Cultural and Community groups throughout Mississauga will benefit from $4 million in grant funding as approved by Mississauga City Council today. Seventy-five groups, including 12 groups previously approved for multi-year funding, were recommended in a staff report to receive financial support from the City for 2021. Funding will be adjusted for events that are cancelled or adapted to virtual or modified in-person events due to COVID-19 restrictions. Read More
