Background
Detached homes currently make up about 70 per cent of all housing in Mississauga – but that’s changing. Since 2023, the City has taken a number of actions to make it easier to build different housing types in neighbourhoods. Here are some examples:
- Additional Residential Units (ARUs): Residents may build up to three residential units on one lot (including the primary residence) in neighbourhoods city-wide. This includes garden suites, triplexes, basement apartments, etc.
- Fourplexes: Residents may build a fourplex in residential areas when they meet the City’s zoning by-law regulations. A fourplex is a single low-rise residential building containing four separate units.
- Semi-detached homes and homes on smaller lots: The City has simplified its residential zoning into two new zones to allow semi-detached homes and homes on smaller lots.
- Pre-approved garden suite design plans: The City offers pre-approved plans and materials lists for one-bedroom and studio garden suites, making it easier for homeowners to build a detached unit on their property.

The Peel Region Public Works department regularly maintains and repairs the water system to make sure you have a consistent supply of quality drinking water. Sometimes we must turn off your water supply while we do this work.
Your water will be turned off Friday, August 29th, 2025. From 9:00am to 5:00pm. If we need to reschedule this work due to weather or other circumstances, we will let you know the new date and time.
Property owner/manager responsibilities during a water interruption
As a property owner/manager, it is your responsibility to:
- Ensure maintenance, mechanical or plumbing staff are on site during the water interruption, as it may affect internal systems that rely on water such as boilers, fire suppression, and alarms.
- Notify the fire alarm company if the interruption could affect an alarm system.
- Have a fire watch completed during the water interruption, as the building’s sprinkler protection system will not function when the water supply is shut off.
After the water interruption
When we turn the water back on, air in the pipes may make the water cloudy and your plumbing may vibrate or make noise. We recommend removing the air by slowly turning on your taps from the lowest to the highest faucet in the building (that is, starting in the basement/first floor, and finishing on the top floor). You will likely need to run the water for 10 to 30 seconds. Run the water until it is clear, and any vibration or noise has stopped.
Important note
After the water is turned back on, we recommend checking the water meter (usually located in the basement). If it is leaking, call Water Meter Installations Dispatch at:
- 905-791-7800 extension 3226 (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Monday to Friday)
- 905-791-7800 extension 4409 (after hours or statutory holidays)

CONSTRUCTION WORK IN YOUR AREA
Sanitary sewer maintenance hole rehabilitation
Lakeside Avenue, Aviation Road, Richey Crescent, The Greenway, Enola Avenue,
Lakeshore Road East, and The Waterfront Trail
Project 21-2411
Peel Region will be rehabilitating the sanitary sewer maintenance holes (commonly called manholes) along
streets and in the parks, as shown on the attached map. Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry
wastewater from your home or business to a water resource recovery facility. Wastewater is created when water
goes down a drain or toilet.
We’ll clean the maintenance holes and place a new resin (plastic) lining inside it to extend its life. This work will
be completed within the maintenance holes and will not require digging trenches in your neighbourhood.
Rehabilitating maintenance holes ensures the sanitary sewers can continue to be accessed and maintained.
When we need to partially replace one, we’ll share additional information with affected residents and businesses
before the work starts.
Construction schedule
Construction is planned to start at the end of Summer 2025 and finish Winter 2025. It usually takes a few
hours to three days to repair a single maintenance hole, depending on the work required. Once we have
rehabilitated the manholes, we’ll repair the road, curb, sidewalk, driveways, and lawns.
All work is warrantied for two years from the completion date.
Contractor working hours
The work will be completed by Insituform Technologies Ltd and Empipe Infrastructure Group, and supported by
consultant Robinson Consultants Inc, under contract to Peel Region. Working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.,
Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with local municipal bylaws and help shorten the amount of time
construction is in your neighborhood.
Where granted under the City of Mississauga Noise Bylaw exemption, work is allowed to take place overnight
(between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.) to reduce the impact of our work. Overnight work will take place intermittently on
Lakeshore Road East at Enola Avenue, between the start of September and end of October.
Construction safety
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe. Be aware of your surroundings when driving,
walking, or biking near the construction area. Watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down,
and consider other routes. Visit peelregion.ca/workzonesafety for more information.
