Please note that the above will be filming interior and exterior scenes for a web series “Detention Adventure” at 2162 Denise Road (Ward 1) on January 15 from 7:00am-11:00pm. 

A permit has been issued to allow parking on the following:

  • One side of Denise Road from Sherway Drive to Carletta Drive

A permit has also been issued to allow camera equipment on the roadway, boulevard and sidewalk as long as two-way traffic and pedestrian access is maintained at all times.

Christmas tree collection in the Region of Peel

Christmas tree collection in the Region of Peel

– From January 13-24, the Region of Peel will be collecting real Christmas trees and wreaths at the curb on residents’ recycling collection day.

To set out for collection, residents should ensure that:

  • trees taller than 3 m. (10 ft.) are cut in half,
  • all plastic bags, ornaments, tinsel, nails, wire and tree stands are removed,
  • trees are not placed in or on snowbanks,
  • if you live in an apartment or condo, the trees are set at the curb by the driveway entrance to the property, and that trees do not obstruct the road or sidewalk.

Residents who miss their collection can also take their Christmas trees to a Community Recycling Centre (CRC). Trees taller than 3 m. (10 ft.) must be cut in half to be accepted. There will be no drop-off fees at the CRCs for Christmas trees during the Christmas tree collection period only.

Residents are also encouraged to sign-up to receive free weekly collection reminders by email, text message, or phone call.

Mi-Way Holiday Season Schedule

Starting December 23, 2019, MiWay will operate on revised schedules for the upcoming holiday season. These schedule adjustments will be in effect until January 3, 2020. Customers are encouraged to use miway.ca/planatrip for the most up to date schedules and information.

On New Year’s Eve, all customers are invited to ride free between 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 and 4 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Some MiWay routes will offer extended late night service until 4 a.m. Additional information about the holiday service schedules can be found at miway.ca/holiday.

Additionally, on January 6, 2020, schedules will be revised on some MiWay routes to improve service reliability. Earlier and later trips have been added on some local and express routes, expanding service hours on main corridors, including routes 42 Derry, 103 Hurontario Express and 109 Malton Express.

  1. Route 57 Courtneypark will have added weekday service to the Infield Loop on Britannia Road East, north of Courtneypark Drive (Toronto Pearson Airport).Some weekday trips servicing GO stations have been cancelled due to low ridership demand. Peel’s winter garbage exemption period

(December 16, 2019) – The Region of Peel reminds all residents about the change to its garbage exemption period for winter 2019.

 

OLD DATE NEW DATE
December 2019

(Christmas/New Year)

 January 27-31, 2020

February 3-7, 2020

There will be no garbage exemption during the holiday season. Check your collection calendar to find your garbage exemption day.

During the exemption period, remember to put your extra garbage out only on your garbage collection day, not on your recycling collection day.

There is no maximum amount of acceptable garbage (check our website for a full list of items) that you can put on the curb. Garbage bag tags are not required during exemption periods.

Excess garbage cannot:

  • Weigh more than 20 kg (44 lbs).
  • Be larger than 66 cm (26 in) wide and 90 cm (35 in) high.
  • Be smaller than 30 cm (12 in) wide and 30 cm (12 in) high.

Put your excess garbage close to but not on top of your garbage bins, leaving at least 1 m (3 ft.) of clear space between your extra garbage item(s) and your bins.

Residents are also encouraged to check their collection calendar or sign-up to receive free weekly collection reminders by email, text message, or phone call.

Vacuum Leaf Program Update (December 12, 2019)

Vacuum Leaf Program is moving ahead

This has been a challenging season for the Vacuum Leaf Program with having three disruptive snow storms during the program. You would have received a colour coded notice card in the mail in the early fall with the pick-up dates for your area. Green and Yellow have now been completed. Crews have now moved into the Blue Zone, which included the Mineola’s and parts of Port Credit.  They are working diligently to get the program completed.

I would like to thank our residents for their patience and understanding during this challenging season.

Walk In The Park program

Park People is working with the City to bring their Walk in the Park program to older adults and seniors living in Mississauga.  They currently are accepting applications for community walk leaders with a working deadline of January 3rd.

Full details about the program, volunteer role, online application and associated training can be found on our webpage.  Parks staff will be posting in city-owned facilities.

Taking Action on Climate Change

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time. We have already experienced the impacts of climate change with increased flooding, ice storms and some of the hottest summers on record, but we are taking action! Together with my colleagues on Council, we recently approved the City’s Climate Change Action Plan. It contains ambitious yet practical steps that will help us combat climate change over the next 10 years.

The plan has two main goals – 1. Reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 80 per cent by 2050 with the long-term goal of becoming a net-zero community; and 2. Increase resilience and the capacity of the city to withstand and respond to current and future climate events

In total, the Plan contains 21 key actions that are grouped under five ‘action pathways’:

  • Buildings and Clean Energy
  • Resilient and Green Infrastructure
  • Accelerating Discovery and Innovation
  • Low-Emissions Mobility
  • Engagement and Partnerhips

Leaf Clean up Program – Update as of December 9, 2019

Please be advised that staff are currently changing over the trucks to start up the Vacuum Leaf Collection Program (VLCP) tomorrow.  Crews will continue their in the YELLOW zone and then move forward through as many zones as possible, depending on the weather.

The process will be slow due to possible frozen and wet leaves however, crews will do their best to collect as many leaves as possible.

I will provide an update to you indicating how the program is progressing during the week.

Hotspots

Borrow a hotspot device to connect a computer, phone or tablet to wireless Internet for free. Use your library card to borrow a hotspot for up to 7 days at a time.

Hotspots are available at Central Library, Cooksville Library, Frank McKechnie Library, Malton Library, Mississauga Valley Library and Woodlands Library. 

Chromebooks and laptops

Use your library card to use a Chromebook or laptop. They can be used anywhere inside the library. They must be returned 30 minutes before closing or late fees will be charged.

Chromebooks are available at Cooksville Library, Malton Library and Sheridan Library.

Laptops are available at Central Library, Frank McKechnie Libary and Woodlands Library. 

Get a virtual library card

If you do not have a Mississauga Library card, you can get a virtual library card to access digital items such as ebooks, audiobooks, movies, music, magazines, newspapers and more.
