In an effort to remove and prevent barriers for persons with disabilities, the City is making Mississauga’s waterfront more inclusive and accessible for all with the Accessible Beach Routes pilot project. Accessible Beach Routes will roll out at Lakefront Promenade and Jack Darling Memorial Park on July 1, 2019, weather permitting.
Accessible beach mats provide a nonslip, accessible surface and allows individuals with mobility aids, such as wheelchairs and walkers, older adults and parents with strollers, easier to access to the beach.
Parks Operations staff will install the mats and directional signage at both park locations. The mats are secured in place with pins, allowing for easy maintenance without requiring the mats to be removed or the facility closed for an extended period of time. The beach access route will remain in place for the season and the mats will be removed annually in the fall and over winter.
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

How often do you go to 152nd birthday celebrations? How about when you’re the one getting the gifts? Well that’s what you’re invited to this Canada Day at Mississauga Celebration Square.
Platinum-selling, award-winning, recording artists, Marianas Trench are headlining the mega event on the main stage.
If the hot sun doesn’t keep the stage and the anticipated 100,000 guests warm, music by Logan Staats, Leaving Thomas and Sickick definitely will.
No Canada Day celebration would be complete without the opportunity to remember what it means to be Canadian. The official ceremony will put guests in that proud-to-be-Canadian state of mind as Mayor Bonnie Crombie and Members of Council will lead a reaffirmation oath encouraging attendees to re-confirm their Canadian Citizenship.
Don’t forget your towel for your chance to make an afternoon splash in the fountain sponsored by Alectra. When the sun goes down, the lights get brighter. The celebration of the summer is punctuated with a spectacular fireworks finale at 10:05 p.m. presented by Tim Hortons.
Afternoon hosts, Global News’ Anthony Farnell and Farah Nasser and evening hosts, Antony Robart and ET Canada’s Sangita Patel will host the event which includes a full day of family-friendly entertainment.
Come for the food, stay for the entertainment, leave with the best Canada Day memories ever.

Information regarding the City of Mississauga Goose program: Along the Waterfront, the City of Mississauga has a program called Goose Roundup. It’s an annual collection of geese in Mississauga and Oakville. Working alongside Canadian Wildlife Services, the geese are collected and released at Jack Miner’s Foundation Sanctuary, where the geese enjoy their lives in a protected environment.
The City frequently sweeps the turf areas and pathways, primarily in Port Credit Memorial Park, JJ Plaus and Credit Village Marina. We also bring a contractor in to power wash the railings along Credit Village Marina when droppings get excessive.
Parks staff also utilize backpack blowers and pressure washers in many of our waterfront parks to deal with goose droppings- especially along pathways and in picnic shelters.

Sign up for your opportunity during your lunch break to try out a Bosch eBike during this pilot project. The eBikes can run on electric power as well as by pedaling, and will be available from June 10 to June 14 from noon to 2 p.m. The motor can shore up your pedaling as needed and can make it easier to go uphill or ride for long distances.
This eBike trial is open only to City of Mississauga employees and not for members of the public. The eBikes will be located at the northwest corner of Princess Royal Drive and Living Arts Drive.
Take advantage of this opportunity by registering online and signing a waiver prior to your session. Spaces are limited! You will also need to bring your own helmet in order to participate.
Questions about the eBike test event? Contact Diana.Suzuki-Bracewell@mississauga.ca.

Summer temperatures are fast approaching and so is the opening of the City of Mississauga’s outdoor pools and spray pads. Pull out those beach towels, find those flip-flops and get ready for a splashing good time in Mississauga this summer.
Spray Pads
Already feeling the heat? As of May 17, all of the City’s 27 spray pads are open to the community for the summer season, with the exception of the spray pad at Mississauga Valley Park. A section of the spray pad at Mississauga Valleys is under construction and not operational at this time. Residents are free to enjoy the spray pads through to September, weather permitting, but are reminded that the spray pads are unsupervised. City spray pads are a fun, free way to keep cool and open daily at 9 a.m. Residents can use the eParks map to check out the spray pads in their neighbourhood.
Enjoy the interactive water feature at Mississauga Celebration Square. Until Labour Day weekend, the water feature can be enjoyed by residents from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., same as previous years.
Pools
Residents can also look forward to staying cool by the pool this summer. The City has seven outdoor pools and 11 indoor pools, all of which are supervised by trained City employees. The indoor pools operate year-round and soon the outdoor pools will be open for their regular season.
Indoor Pools
Outdoor Pools
June 1 to 21 (weekends only)
June 22 to June 28

All indoor pools will be closed for the July 1 holiday. Outdoor pools will be open, however residents are asked to check with their local pool for holiday swim schedules. For more information, check out the summer swim schedule and these tips for staying cool. For updates on any service disruptions that may occur at the City’s spray pads, residents can call 3-1-1, follow Mississauga Parks and Forestry on Twitter (@MississaugaPF) or visit mississauga.ca/parks.
