New Water Service Connections to all Properties between the Lakeshore West Rail Bridge to Mineola Road – June 29, 2023 to July 29, 2023 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. with some overnight works

What work is taking place?

As utility upgrades progress in the area, crews will be connecting properties along Hurontario Street, between the GO Lakeshore West rail bridge and Mineola Road, to the new watermain infrastructure that has recently been installed along the road alignment. The work is expected to take place as early as June 29 and will last approximately one month to July 29. Crews will be working Monday to Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. In some instances, overnight work will be required at the direction of the Region of Peel for temporary water service disruptions during the connections.

All the connection points are within the municipal right of way. Most of the connection points are located within the municipal side of existing driveways or the public boulevard. To make these connections, crews will need to excavate a small area up to the property line. As a result, there may be temporary impacts to water service, driveway access, and lawns/trees/hedging that are in direct conflict with the connection points. All impacted driveways will be temporarily restored using hot mix asphalt until permanent restoration takes place with final grading and re-surfacing. Any disruption to lawns/trees/ hedging will be reinstated during the final landscaping phase of the project. Individual property owners/managers directly impacted will be notified by the Region of Peel in advance of the impacts specific to their water service connection.

In accordance with City of Mississauga Noise By-Law Exemption requirements, this notice is meant to advise that residents near the work site can expect to hear noise and vibration caused by trucks, excavators, backhoes, loaders, and other construction equipment related to this work.

All works will be carried out in accordance with the Ontario Municipalities Act for the purposes of providing a water public utility with respect to accessing private property as needed. TIMING

• Work is expected to begin as early as June 29, 2023, to July 29, 2023

• Working hours are Monday to Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Some overnight works will be required at the direction of the Region of Peel.

• Work could be rescheduled and delayed due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

TRAFFIC DETAILS

• Watch for slow moving vehicles entering and exiting work areas.

• Remember to reduce your speed when approaching lane reductions.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

• Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions.

• There may be temporary impacts to water service, driveway access, lawns/trees/hedging that are in direct conflict with the connection points.

• Individual property owners/manager directly impacted will be notified by the Region of Peel in advance of the impacts specific to their water service connection.

• Residents and businesses near the work site can expect to hear noise and vibration caused by trucks, excavators, loaders, triaxles, backhoes, and other construction equipment related to this work.

TRANSIT DETAILS

• MiWay will continue to operate with regular service.

• Watch for additional signs directing passengers at bus stops as boarding areas may be relocated. Visit www.miway.ca/updates for updates on your route.

PEDESTRIAN DETAILS

• Please take care when travelling near construction areas.

• Sidewalk access in the area could be affected.

• Watch for additional signs directing pedestrians as detours may be required to ensure pedestrian safety.

EAB Removals – Starting June 22 for 2 weeks

City contracted crews (Diamond Tree Service) will be working to remove Ash trees infested with Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in Z06 (QEW down to Lakeshore and Cawthra to Dixie) , & Z07 (QEW down to the lake, and Hurontario to Cawthra and Aviation).

Crews will be practicing social distancing and appropriate signage will be posted.

Crews will be working Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. After the initial tree removal, crews will remove the tree stumps, repair the ground with topsoil and reseed. All works will be weather dependant.

All City-owned park trees removed due to EAB will be replanted over several years. This is due to the high number of trees removed from parks, the short planting season and weather conditions.

Forestry is currently working on plans to replant woodlots. Each woodlot is unique and will require additional work to create individual plans for each site. For some, that may mean letting them regenerate naturally while others will have trees replanted.

GO Service Changes

Lakeshore West

Beginning Monday June 26, 2023

We’re adjusting schedules on the Lakeshore West line. 

  • The weekday westbound 10:43 p.m. trip from Union will depart four minutes later at 10:47 p.m.
  • The weekend eastbound 7:04 p.m. trip from Aldershot will depart three minutes earlier at 7:01 p.m.

We’re changing the length of some trains on the Lakeshore West line. 

  • On the Lakeshore West line, the 8:19 a.m. eastbound trip from Oakville will now be 12 cars long. This will make transferring from the express train to the local train easier by giving you more room on the platform.

PROJECT UPDATE Watermain Replacement and Improvement Dundas Street East from Dixie Road to Etobicoke Creek

The Region of Peel has been working in your area to replace the watermain on Dundas Street East from Dixie Road to Etobicoke Creek.
At this time, we have:
• Replaced portions of the watermain on Dundas Street East,
• Temporarily repaired the driveways, road, curbs, and sidewalk where disturbed by the watermain replacement work.

The remaining work will be completed under the next phase of the project. We will shutdown the work on site and clean up the week of June 19, 2023. We will leave the construction site in a safe condition for the next two months. Some pipes and other materials will remain on site until they are ready to be installed during the next construction phase.

Schedule for remaining construction and repair work
We expect to start work again in September 2023 to complete the following:
• Replace the remaining watermain on Dundas Street East,
• Construct a tunneled section of watermain under Little Etobicoke Creek,
• Connect properties to the new watermain by replacing individual water service pipes/boxes on Dundas Street East,
• Temporarily repair the driveways, road, curbs, sidewalks, and sod (grass), where disturbed by the watermain replacement work.
We plan to complete this work by the end of 2024.

More details about the remaining work will be shared in a follow-up notice.

City of Mississauga roadwork and bus rapid transit project
The Region of Peel remains committed to coordinating our work with the City of Mississauga’s roadwork and Dundas Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project scheduled for 2025 on Dundas Street East (pending budget and council approval).

As this roadwork may impact the driveway, boulevard, street, curbs, and sidewalks, we will:
• Pave only the areas of the street directly disturbed,
• Fix damaged sidewalks and curbs using asphalt,
• Patch your driveway to cover any places we disturbed, as the future roadwork may affect the bottom of your driveway. After the city paves your street, the driveway will be repaired by paving a stripe over the disturbed area, resulting in minimal seams in the final driveway.

Peel Region’s repairs are temporary, as the city will complete restoration as part of their roadwork. Your city will send you a separate notice about their construction.

Important note
This upcoming construction will take place in the municipal right-of-way, the land owned by your city located between the street and your water service box (small, round metal valve in either your driveway or lawn). This work may impact the bottom of your driveway and the area around the sidewalk. We therefore recommend delaying any driveway paving or major landscaping until after the Region of Peel and the city have completed all construction work.

Settlement of the ground
It is normal for repaired areas to settle a bit in the coming months. If you notice large potholes forming in the driveway, street, lawn or boulevard, please let us know and we will ensure the contractor fixes this.
