Now that spring is here, it’s time to get active outside. The City of Mississauga’s Road Safety Committee and Traffic Safety Council are launching the Let’s Move, Mississauga online event during the month of April.

Whether you live, work or study in Mississauga, get outside and move using an active form of transportation, while staying safe and following the rules of the road. Active transportation includes walking, rollerblading or travelling by bike, scooter, skateboard, wheelchair or other mobility devices. Consider swapping the car with a mode of active transportation for getting to every day destinations like work, school, the grocery store or the bus stop. Not only will it help you stay healthy, it also creates safer streets, reduces traffic congestion and reduces carbon emissions.

Until April 30, you’re encouraged to keep track of the number of trips (the number of times you get outside and are active) you take and download the digital certificate to share your accomplishment on social media using the hashtag #LetsMoveSauga. Read More

The City of Mississauga is conducting an aerial spray this spring. The spray will target and manage Lymantria dispar dispar (LDD), formerly known as gypsy moth, in affected city neighbourhoods. The spray is weather dependent and is currently set to happen between April 25 to June 12, 2022, from 5 and 7:30 a.m. The spray area consists of private and public land in Wards 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 and is roughly 2,100 hectares (5,189 acres).The total cost to implement this year’s spray is estimated at $3 million. The City’s Forestry Section is looking for resident volunteers for its Garlic Mustard Task Force to help steward local natural areas by removing the invasive Garlic Mustard plant is an invasive species that was brought to North America as a food source and for herbal medicine.

In natural areas, Garlic Mustard outperforms native species by crowding out and displacing native plants such as Trillium flowers.

The City is currently taking measures to reduce the Garlic Mustard population in Mississauga, but since it can double in size in four years time, the recruitment of interested volunteers is needed to help fight against the growth of Garlic Mustard.

Task Force volunteers will receive training, supplies and be assigned a designated park or natural area near their homes to complete a series of Garlic Mustard removal pulls during the spring each year.
