NAV Canada regularly conducts instrument landing system (ILS) check at Toronto Pearson. This is a routine operation that ensures the accuracy and safety of the country’s navigation aids and instrument approach procedures. The ILS is a precision approach system that provides navigational guidance signals and information on a cockpit display to guide pilots accurately to the point of landing in periods of poor visibility.
The first semi-annual test of 2025 will take place for two nights during the week of January 13 from approx. 12:00AM to 4:00AM and will involve all runways at Toronto Pearson. It will take approximately 20 minutes per runway.
Pre-approved flights do operate in the overnight hours in accordance with the Night Flight Restriction program in effect between 12:30 am and 6:30 am. However, given that the flight checks will involve flight patterns of repeated approaches for the runways at varying combinations of height, speed, and direction, we wanted to inform you that there might be noise impacts in your riding.
We have already posted the information on our Noise Advisory Calendar, and will also be posting a message on WebTrak.
Affected residents can feel free to reach out to the Toronto Pearson Noise Management Office directly if they have any questions or wish to submit a noise complaint:
- Online using WebTrak or the complaint form
- By phone 416-247-7682

Background
The Mayor’s Levee is a tradition that dates back to the 17th century, during the reign of King Louis XIV. To show the monarch belonged to the people, the King would invite gentlemen to his bedroom on New Year’s Day to watch him wake up and begin serving the public. The Royal Governor of New France later brought this custom to Canada where it continues to be a new year’s tradition.

Peel Regional Police officially launched the Seasonal Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) Campaign in partnership with Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD). This initiative is part of our ongoing and collaborative efforts to reduce impaired driving and enhance road safety across Peel Region.
From November 16 to December 31, 2024, additional officers from Road Safety Services and divisions will be deployed to conduct increased roadside checks to ensure the community is driving safely and responsibly.
Officers will be reminding the public to not drive if they have consumed alcohol or any type of drugs, as well as ensuring they have a plan to get home by having a designated driver, an alternate place to stay, or using public transportation. Road safety is a shared responsibility.
While the Seasonal R.I.D.E. Campaign marks an increase in strategic enforcement, PRP remains committed to year-round education about the dangers of impaired driving.
We encourage you to keep an eye out on our social media to share road safety tips with your communities throughout the holiday season.

PEP Talks is designed to offer practical support to caregivers navigating the emotional and often hidden aspects of raising a child with T1D. The program is free to attend and is specifically funded and designed for residents of the GTA.
The next session in the series is being hosted on Tuesday December 3 and will focus on transferring responsibilities for youth managing T1D independently. We’ll also be hosting subsequent sessions on growth mindset, communication, and self-care over the coming months (exact dates may change, expect an email from me closer to the date!).
