Peel Regional Police Announcement: PRP Project Warlock – Multiple Arrests Made in Violent Home Invasions, Robberies and Carjacking’s

On July 23rd, 2024, Peel Regional Police (PRP) announced Project Warlock, a six-month investigation focused on an identified organized criminal network based in Brampton and Mississauga. This network was responsible for multiple home invasion-style robberies, armed robberies, and carjacking’s occurring within Peel Region and throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Investigators linked multiple incidents together, including eight robberies in Brampton (three of which were home invasions with two involving firearms), two robberies involving firearms, three knife-point robberies, and a series of carjackings, through extensive video canvasses, physical evidence, and forensics.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of investigators’ from PRP’s Central Robbery Bureau, numerous arrests have been made, multiple search warrants have been executed, and a significant number of charges have been laid, including:

  • 18 individuals arrested, aged from 14-27 years old
  • 150 Criminal Code Offence charges laid
  • 17 violent home invasions, armed robberies and carjackings solved
  • 12 stolen vehicles recovered, valued over $1,200,000
  • Over $55,000 worth of stolen property recovered
  • Over 60 search warrants executed
  • Seizure of 4 prohibited firearms, one with obliterated serial number
  • Seizure of 2 imitation firearms

Over the years, Peel Region has witnessed the violent and tragic, yet preventable, outcomes of criminal acts committed by high-risk repeat offenders ignoring conditions of their release. The arrests of individuals during Project Warlock, with some already on release orders for prior charges, underscores the urgent need for bail reform. Everyone deserves to be safe in their homes, cars and at work. Repeat violent offenders pose a significant threat to public safety, and we encourage greater attention to bail reform to prevent further victimization of our community members.

Peel Regional Police remains committed to seizing every illegal firearm in our community and arresting those responsible for terrorizing residents. The successful completion of this investigation was made possible through funding provided by the Ontario Government, Ministry of the Solicitor General in which the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario (CISO) supported this investigation. We would also like recognize the invaluable contributions and collaboration of our enforcement partners including Ontario Provincial Police, the Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force (PCJTF), York Regional Police, Waterloo Regional Police, Barrie Police, and ServiceOntario.

Classic Country Thursdays Coming in August 2024!

Join the Port Credit BIA every Thursday evening in August for Councillor Dasko’s annual Classic Cars initiative.

This year the theme is Classic Country Thursdays!

Port Credit BIA has brought together two popular events for some amazing Summer vibes with Country Music and Classic Cars for the NEW Classic Country Thursdays.

Each Thursday evening in August from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., our community can enjoy live Country music, a DJ, line dancing, Country fare, games, and more!

Classic cars will return to the Port for the car afficionados and we have added a little Country back in the Port with special menu items at participating business as well as attractions that include a mechanical bull ride, Brampton Batman, and some furry surprises.

This weekly event will take place at the Elmwood lot at 3 Elmwood Avenue North and at participating businesses along Lakeshore from Hurontario to Seneca Ave.

Important Information on Flood Waste Debris Collection from the Region of Peel

Give the scale and scope of damages from the rainfall event on July 16, our Waste Management team has developed the following plan for the collection of flood waste debris in Peel:

Pre-Step:

  • Residents should contact their insurance providers to resolve any claims related to flood damage.

Curbside Pickup (Primary Method):

  • Residents can place their flood-damaged materials at the curb for collection.
  • Residents must call Peel Region’s Customer Contact Centre at (905) 791-9499 to request for flood-related waste collection. This will help us efficiently manage the collection process.
  • This collection method will be advertised on all of Peel’s platforms and we encourage you to share through your channels as well.

Metrolinx Update on PRESTO Card Payment Process

Starting July 16, a PRESTO card can be added to Apple Wallet, and transit users can tap to ride using their iPhone or Apple Watch. This new feature brings even more ways to pay transit fares across the GTHA.

This is also the first time in Canada that a transit card is available in Apple Wallet, changing the game for customers, whether they’re regular riders or just visiting.

A digital version of a PRESTO card can be added to Apple Wallet for no additional charge and can be used to pay fares on GO Transit, UP Express, Brampton Transit, Burlington Transit, Durham Region Transit, Hamilton Street Railway, MiWay (in Mississauga), Oakville Transit, TTC and York Region Transit.

PRESTO in Apple Wallet supports youth, post-secondary student, adult, and senior fare types.

Customers – whether they’re residents or visitors – can instantly purchase and add funds to a PRESTO card in Apple Wallet from the PRESTO app or directly in Apple Wallet. They can also purchase transit passes via the PRESTO app and add them to a PRESTO in Apple Wallet, without needing to visit an in-person location.

Customers with Express Mode enabled can simply hold their iPhone near a reader to ride transit using their PRESTO card in Apple Wallet – without the need to unlock or even wake their device. With power reserve on iPhone, if a customer’s device needs to be charged, they can still use it to ride transit.

PRESTO in Apple Wallet costs $0. There is no administration fee for PRESTO in Apple Wallet. Of course, the physical PRESTO card will also continue to be available for customers who prefer to use it to pay their fare.
