Veterans and military members can soon ride MiWay for free year-round

By Announcement, Transit

This new fare type builds on the free rides already offered to them on the day of the Warriors’ Day Parade and Remembrance Day.

City services | June 25, 2026

The City of Mississauga is launching year-round free rides on MiWay transit for veterans and active Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members (regular or reserved). Starting July 1, they can travel for free on MiWay with valid military identification or other proof of service.

Approved at Council in April 2026, free, year-round rides on MiWay with PRESTO cardholders recognize veterans and CAF members for their service while helping reduce daily travel costs. The program gives eligible riders more affordable access to work, appointments, services, community activities and opportunities to explore the city.

This service aligns with broader regional efforts to support those who serve, including GO Transit and UP Express, which currently provide free year-round transit to this group.

CAF members commuting from Mississauga to Moss Park Armoury or Fort York Armoury can also take advantage of free transfers with Ontario’s One Fare Program. Additionally, MiWay riders can transfer for free to the TTC, GO Transit, Brampton Transit, Oakville Transit, Durham Region Transit or York Region transit, making travel across the region easier.

MiWay is one of the largest transit systems in Ontario. It has almost 70 routes and boasts more than 3,000 stops and 58 million boardings each year.

Eligible riders must set the veterans and CAF fare type on their PRESTO card before boarding to access the free fare.

  1. Get a PRESTO card.
  2. Bring your PRESTO card and approved proof of service to a MiWay customer service outlet.
    • ID can include a Canadian Military Service ID, Temporary National Defence ID Card, or military uniforms or medals.
  3. Ask to have the veterans and CAF fare type added.
  4. When boarding, tap your PRESTO card as usual. Your fare will show a free ride.

Other important information

If you need to purchase a physical PRESTO card, visit a customer service outlet to buy one for $4.

More MiWay service coming to Dixie GO from June 29

By Transit

Route 51 Tomken will be extended to service Dixie GO station. This will make it easier to connect to GO trains on the Milton Line and travel to Toronto.

City services | June 22, 2026

Whether you are going downtown, visiting friends or heading to work, MiWay is an economic and reliable way to travel. You can connect to GO Transit and use free transfers with your PRESTO card. Taking MiWay can help you save money on gas. Leave your car at home, avoid high fuel costs and relax on your ride. MiWay is improving service from June 29, so you can make most of the summer when visiting Toronto for work or leisure.

Route 51 Tomken extension

Route 51 Tomken will be extended to service Dixie GO Station. This makes it easier to transfer to the Milton Line GO train.

You can board Route 51 at Platform 4 (stop #3461) at Dixie GO station. Service on this route will also improve on Saturdays.

Adjusting service based on ridership

MiWay closely monitors ridership on each route to ensure services are aligned with demand. When fewer customers use a route, service levels are adjusted accordingly, which may result in less frequent bus service. This allows resources to be reallocated to busier routes, helping to improve capacity and reduce overcrowding. As part of this approach, the following routes will operate at a reduced frequency:

  • 7 Airport: On Saturdays, between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., buses will come every 25 minutes instead of every 20 to 22 minutes.
  • 17 Hurontario: On weekdays, between 7 and 11 p.m., buses will come every 20 minutes instead of every 14 minutes.
  • 57/57A Courtneypark: On weekdays, in the morning (5 to 8:30 a.m.) and afternoon (1:30 to 6 p.m.) buses will come every 14 minutes instead of every 12 minutes. Two extra westbound trips will be added at 3:58 p.m. and 4:56 p.m. to reduce crowding.

Summer school service

Regular school routes (300-series) will not run during the summer. Instead, there will be six summer school routes and additional trips on existing routes, operating from July 6 to 31. Summer schools will be served by these routes:

  • Father Michael Goetz Catholic Secondary School: Route 28 Confederation.
  • Philip Pocock Catholic Secondary School: Routes 51 Tomken and 371 Philip Pocock SS.
  • Rick Hansen Secondary School: Routes 356 Rick Hansen SS and 376 Rick Hansen SS.
  • St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School: Routes 9 Rathburn, 373 Joan of Arc SS and 374 Joan of Arc SS.
  • St. Martin Catholic Secondary School: Routes 4 North Service Road and 375 St. Martin SS.

Regular secondary school service will return on Tuesday, September 8.

Schedule adjustments

MiWay will adjust schedules on some routes to keep service running on time as traffic and customer demand change. More updates may come later.

More MiWay express service coming to Kipling Bus Terminal starting April 27

By Resources, Transit

MiWay will be extending Route 135 Eglinton Express to serve Kipling Bus Terminal, offering customers another frequent connection to both TTC and GO Transit services in Toronto.

City services | April 20, 2026

As Mississauga grows, MiWay is adjusting service to keep up with rider needs. These adjustments are based on ridership data and customer feedback that highlight areas for improvement. This ongoing review enables MiWay to make changes to improve connections and reduce crowding on busy routes. These changes also help make trips faster, more frequent and reliable for travel within and beyond Mississauga. As of April, MiWay’s transit network has grown to include 13 major corridor routes that operate at 15 minutes or better.

Route 135 Eglinton Express extended to Kipling Bus Terminal

To improve connections to Toronto, Route 135 Eglinton Express will be extended to serve Kipling Bus Terminal. This more frequent, extended service will give customers another reliable, express option to connect to TTC and GO Transit services at this key transit hub in Toronto. For trips back to Mississauga, customers can board Route 135 Eglinton Express at Platform 5 (stop #9059). This is on the north side of Kipling Bus Terminal.

Platform changes at Kipling Bus Terminal

Many MiWay routes that serve Kipling Bus Terminal will have new platform locations. The new platform layout supports the extended Route 135 Eglinton Express and helps reduce crowding. Some routes will now use a dedicated drop-off area.

Service improvements

Improved service will be seen on these routes:

  • On weekdays: 3 Bloor, 5 Dixie, 28 Confederation, 70 Keaton, 71 Sheridan and 108 Financial Express.
  • On Sundays: 101 Dundas Express.
  • Connections to GO service at Erindale and Cooksville GO stations: 9 Rathburn and 28 Confederation.

New bus stops on Route 107

The southbound stop (#3459) will serve buses headed to City Centre Transit Terminal. The northbound bus stop (stop #3458) will allow for customers to be dropped off by buses heading towards Humber College Bus Terminal.

Routing adjustment on Route 108

To improve the efficiency of Route 108 Financial Express, the afternoon southbound routing will follow a simpler route along Financial Drive and Creditview Road. This will match the morning northbound routing. A new bus stop on Creditview Road at Derry Road (stop #6139) will replace two existing bus stops (stops #1575 and #1423) along Creditview Road and Derry Road.

Schedule adjustments

MiWay will adjust schedules on several routes to keep service reliable as traffic and ridership change across the city. More schedule adjustments may follow.

Seasonal post-secondary service reductions

Due to lower customer demand during the summer academic term, the following routes will have reduced service:

  • 44 Mississauga Road
  • 110A University Express
  • 126 Burnhamthorpe Express.

Regular post-secondary service will resume on Tuesday, September 8.

Give your feedback on MiWay service

Have your voice heard! MiWay has partnered with Experience Advisors to survey customers from April 7 to 24 about their satisfaction with transit. They will be at terminals, bus stops and on-board buses inviting customers to share feedback through a short survey. They will be wearing visitor passes with the MiWay logo as identification.

Mississauga taps into provincial funding to expand investments into road safety measures

By Transit

The City of Mississauga welcomes funding from the province to enhance road safety measures in school and community safety zones across the city.

City services | March 5, 2026

While the use of automated speed enforcement (ASE) cameras ended last November as a result of provincial legislation, Mississauga remains committed to road safety. Following the province’s decision to cancel the ASE program, the City has received interim provincial funding of $2,242,888 from the Road Safety Initiatives Fund (RSIF). Additional provincial funding of $8,934,513 will be provided to enhance road safety initiatives in school zones and community safety zones across Mississauga, reimbursed after costs are incurred by the City.

In November 2025, the Government of Ontario passed Bill 56Building a More Competitive Economy Act2025, an omnibus bill that includes amendments to the Highway Traffic Act to ban the use of speed cameras throughout the province. The bill required all municipalities to discontinue the operation of its speed camera program. To comply with the new legislation, the City ended its ASE program on November 14, 2025. To offset the loss of the speed cameras, the Government of Ontario introduced the Road Safety Initiatives Fund to allow municipalities to invest more money into road safety measures in school zones and community safety zones.

How the funds will be spent

RSIF is only eligible to be used in school zones and community safety zones where ASE cameras were deployed or were intended to be deployed.

The City is planning to implement the immediate interim RSIF equally across all 11 wards, approximately $200,000 to be used in three to four school zones in each ward. The additional $8,934,513 will also be made available to the City but will only be reimbursed after costs are incurred.

City staff will review the data collected before and during the deployment of the ASE cameras to determine the impact this program has had on speeds at each location where they were installed to identify priority locations. Staff will also consult and work with each Ward Councillor in selecting the most appropriate school zones to receive safety improvements in their respective wards.

Other road safety investments

In addition to the new projects that will be implemented as a result of RSIF, the City’s existing road safety programs help reduce speeding and promote safety. They include:

  • Designating 31 school zones on major roadways as Community Safety Zones in 2025, bringing the total to more than 200 Community Safety Zones designated in Mississauga as of September 2025. These are designated sections of the roads where public safety is of special concern. Many set fines are doubled in these zones, such as speeding and traffic-signal related offences.
  • In 2025, new traffic calming projects were installed on 24 roads in residential neighbourhoods and near school zones to help reduce speeding and aggressive driving.
  • Installing more pedestrian crossovers to provide protected pedestrian crossings. In 2025, 13 new pedestrian crossovers were installed to help increase safety for pedestrians crossing the road.
  • Continuing the School Walking Routes program to guide the way to school and alert drivers to watch for children.

Quotes

“At the City of Mississauga, road safety is a top priority, particularly in community safety zones and near schools. Through funding received from the provincial Road Safety Initiatives Fund, we will focus on expanding investments where they are needed most, ensuring that effective road safety solutions are introduced in neighbourhoods that rely on them. These efforts help us create safer streets and protect all road users.” – Carolyn Parrish, Mayor of Mississauga

“The Road Safety Initiatives Fund will allow us to continue advancing critical road safety improvements across our community, even in the absence of the Automated Speed Enforcement program. Our commitment to safer streets remains strong and this fund ensures we can continue making meaningful progress.” – Sam Rogers, Commissioner, Transportation and Works

More fare options coming to the Affordable Transit Program starting April 1

By Announcement, Transit

The program will provide a 50 per cent discount on PRESTO single fares for low-income adult and youth riders, making transit a more affordable option for travel in Mississauga.

March 23, 2026

Riding MiWay to school, work or for fun to explore the city just got easier with more affordable fares for youth and families with lower income levels.

The Affordable Transit Program (ATP), which launched as a pilot in 2014, is a partnership between the City of Mississauga and Peel Region. The program provides a 50 per cent discount on MiWay adult monthly passes for eligible Mississauga residents.

Starting April 1, the program will also offer a 50 per cent discount on PRESTO single fares for eligible youth and for adult riders. This will provide them with more ways to pay their fare on MiWay. This also helps make transit more equitable for those who may not need a monthly pass for their travels in Mississauga. More riders will be able to benefit from discounted transit fares and move around the city and beyond with greater support and confidence.

Getting a PRESTO card

Riders will need a PRESTO card to apply to the program. Add a digital PRESTO card to an Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for free, or purchase a physical card for $4 from a customer service outlet.
