“In Hindsight” is a Weekly Series (Following the Model of Old-Fashioned Radio) on Different Personalities in 19th and 20th Century Canadian History. It is produced by the Ontario Historical Society featuring Professor Donald Smith.

Professor Smith is the author of Sacred Feathers as well as many other books regarding Indigenous history.

A number of episodes focus on Dr. Smith’s research of the history of the Mississaugas, taking you back to historic Mississauga to learn about Canada’s and Mississauga’s Indigenous history.

National Drowning Prevention Week – Free Swim July 19th

This week, through to July 22nd, we are recognizing National Drowning Prevention Week by welcoming residents for a free swim on Wednesday July 19th at select pools across the City.

Staff will be on site delivering drowning prevention messages, information, handouts, colouring sheets, fun activities and more to help educate families about the importance of water safety.

According to the Lifesaving Society, over 400 Canadians die in preventable water-related incidents annually. Making a splash at pools, lakes, rivers, beaches should be positive experience for everyone and water safety is essential.

Free swims will take place on Wednesday July 19th at the following locations and times: 

Don McLean Westacres Outdoor Pool

1:10 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Lions Club of Credit Valley Outdoor Pool

1:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Summer Concert Series 2023 – Port Credit Memorial Park

The City of Mississauga presents free outdoor concerts at Port Credit Memorial Park on Sundays evenings from 6:30 – 8 pm this Summer.

Events are weather permitting and subject to change. Events may be delayed or cancelled due to extreme weather.

A Butter Tart Festival is happening Sunday, June 25th!

At Mississauga’s Lakeview Farmers’ Market

Thousands of butter tarts are landing in Mississauga this Sunday! Joining the Lakeview Farmers’ Market on Sunday, June 25 from 9am-2pm at the Small Arms Inspection Building is the Butter Tarts & More Market hosted by Gotta Luv Butter Tarts Events!

This market will feature an array of butter tarts, baked goods, sweet treats, and more, for a fantastic day of shopping and eating. Seating will be available outside, with live music, and a butter tart judging competition.

Sunday, June 25th will also be a Lakeview Artisan Market day. With a rotating group of unique artisans, market-goers will be able to choose from a selection of diverse, locally handcrafted wares such as skincare and body products, jewellery, woodwork, candles, leather goods, photography, clothing, and more.

 

Garden Day Event – Saturday June 24 – 10 am – 12 pm

Enjoy tours of the park and gardens lead by Parks Horticulture Staff and Riverwood Conservancy staff at 10:30am and 11:15am.
